A strong earthquake with a preliminary
magnitude of 6.0 rattled Trinidad and northern Venezuela today about 9:10am while I was online on Multiply.
No damage or injuries
were immediately reported. The tremor swayed
buildings in the Trinidadian capital, Port-of-Spain, and some schools
were evacuated. The earthquake was centred 26 miles north-west of Port-of-Spain in the Caribbean Sea, according to the USGS.
It was also felt in Grenada, 100 miles north of Trinidad.
A serious aftershock was just felt no more than 2 mins ago rocking us once more swaying buildings and knocking over powerlines in certain areas.
On Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 AM in the morning, the time and date will be
01:02:03 04/05/06
This will never happen again in your life time.
Well folks we're back from our, all too short, trip. Actually we've been back a week now but... we lazy. Anyway, it was tons-o-fun... check out the pics in the Gallery to get a blow by blow on places and events we attended. New York was cold but we loved it. My Aunt, Uncle, Dad, Ms. Jones and Nicole's brother Dave were very accomidating and kind. Canada was colder and bleeker... it rained everyday but that didn't stop us. My Mom and Step Dad took us everywhere there and we enjoyed every second of it. Got a chance to talk to my photography buddy Reg77 from Multiply.. he lives Toronto, check his site out... fantastic photography. I'm happy Nicole had fun and enjoyed herself. We did the Memorial for her Mom in New Jersey and things went well.
All-in-all it was a successful vacation and then some. We plan to do again next year if (God spare life).
Well, we arrived in JFK about 10:15pm Friday night. Got though customs ok. Got fingerprinted and sent on our merry way. We were in the airport less than 15 mins. In Trinidad going through customs is a 2 hr stressfest, so we were shocked how fast we were outta there. So we're safe and sound and I'll be posting pics in the Gallery everyday.
Cya tomorrow
Well folks we're headed to the airport this evening, the weather is STILL WAY TO COLD IN NYC FOR ME but we'll be alright... (yeah right) we are Trinis, we is not of de cold, we knows nuttin bout cold... oh glory, pressure is joke... Yuh see dat picture over there ------> that is how New York lookin right now... and where we going... right there... sigh, pressure!
Last weekend a below zero blizzard rocked New York completely shutting down JFK. Check the image of the forecast for the next 3 days and guess what day we're going to NYC... (arrgghhhhh!)
Today...Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 50s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight...Partly cloudy in the evening...then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers towards morning. Patchy fog after midnight. Breezy with lows in the lower 40s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph...increasing to 15 to 25 mph after midnight. Chance of rain 30 percent.
Friday...Showers likely. Patchy fog in the morning. Windy with highs in the lower 50s. Temperatures falling into the lower 40s in the afternoon. West winds 20 to 30 mph. Gusts up to 50 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 70 percent.
Well, my mother booked the Canada leg of our trip so we're all set. I'm really excited to see her. We should be landing in Vancouver on Saturday 25th Feb for 4 days. Money is getting pretty tight with all the last minute details... even though we have a couple weeks till we leave but I have faith it'll all work out. It's gonna be a pretty jammed pack itinerary... lots to do and no time to do it.
I told my Mom about our trip so she invited us to hop over to B.C. Canada for a few days so yesturday Nicole & I went to the Canadian High Commission to apply for our Canadian visas. We both already have American Visas so we didn't have to worry about those but we've never been to Canada before and due to new, more strict policies we were not sure to get them.
We arrived at the Commission about 7:25am and found a "not to long" line already developing. We originally downloaded the application forms from the net but there was one we, apparently, didn't get so we had to fill that one out while people that came after us went in ahead of us - Murphy's Law in full effect. We were then told to come back between 1pm & 2pm while they processed our documents.
We went to have breakfast, ran a few errands and took some scenery shots of the surrounding historical buildings (see QUEEN'S PARK SAVANNAH" gallery in my photos section). We returned about 1:30pm and found an even longer line. Nicole was eventually sent in to retrieve our passports. She finally came out with a smile on her face... we got the visas.
So we're all set for USA & Canada.
It's was Christmas time in Trinidad & Tobago when my girlfriend, Nicole, decided to go to New York to host a Memorial for her mother in February 2006. We both have friends and relatives in various parts of New York so even though it's a bitter sweet trip we're both very excited.
I went to Miami 2 years ago but I've never been to NY. Nicole's been there several times when her Mom was ill, so going to NY brings back memories of that very sad time in her life. I hope I can help her enjoy this trip. I think she's increadibly brave to host this Memorial.. sometimes I wish and had half her strength. This trip means alot to the both of us and I aim to ensure we spend our time enjoying each other's company.
